Incredible India

India Tour Packages by regions and explore diverse culture, heritage and natural wonders of the country

When you are traveling for the first time to India, it is better to do good research and plan ahead. Here are 8 tips we believe will be helpful to females stepping foot in India.

  1. Group Travel - If you are traveling to India for the first time, it is better to go for a group tour rather than solo. You may plan to extend your visit post tour when you have understood the dynamics and culture of the country better during the group tour.
  2. Plan ahead - It is imperative that you plan ahead and well. You should know where you will be staying and how long. If possible, leave behind a copy of this with the people on your emergency contact list. We recommend that you book your tour with a trusted travel operator and even leave behind their contact numbers while also adding it to your speed dial list. Book your transfers in advance and possibly with the same tour operator as of the tour if arriving late in the night. Trust us, this will save you from a lot of hassles.
  3. Carry your essentials - Although most of the cities have good pharmacies, but to stay out of trouble, it is better you pack your essentials before heading off on a trip. From toilet paper, a refillable water bottle, medication and sanitary needs to insect repellant and maybe a pepper spray for your safety. Pack them well and keep handy.
  4. Care for your valuables - It is strongly recommended to not carry your valuables on a trip, not even a lot of cash. If you must, read the custom rules beforehand or check with your tour operator and rent a safe deposit locker at a trusted place/hotel to keep it. Not only this, never leave your passport behind when going out. Make sure your visa is valid till the date of your extended travel, if planning later on.
  5. Dress appropriately - India is as yet an exceptionally moderate nation. Regardless of the warmth and unending perspiration, make a point to cover your shoulders with a scarf or wear such tees, wear knee length or longer jeans alongside tops long enough to cover your stomach. Tight fitting garments will draw undesirable attention and are viewed as impolite at temples and other religious sites.
  6. Smile but learn to say “NO’ - With a smile you may come out as friendly and unharming but it can also draw unnecessary attention and over friendly people. The moment you start feeling uncomfortable, be loud to say ‘No’. Be it a touch or a picture, other women around and decent people will come to your rescue.
  7. Stay connected - Make friends with fellow travelers and learn their ideas about traveling in India. Always ensure the internet connection at the hotel you are staying at or any internet cafes nearby, stay in touch with your family and friends, if possible always share the location and contact of a trustworthy person you met on tour.
  8. You might be treated as a celebrity - At many places you might be treated as a celebrity with all the looks and requests for a picture. If the stare becomes obscene and uncomfortable, confidently point out in public. As for the picture requests, clicking with a family is fine but avoid getting with a single guy or a bunch of guys, if they insist, politely ask for a group picture with several other girls.
  9. No alms to beggars - Restrain yourself from offering alms to the beggars, especially ignore women with kids sleeping. This will not only save you from several others approaching you for more money but also discourage the whole racket of trafficking women and children as beggars.
  10. Stay Vigilant - The last but most important tip, stay vigilant. Even if you are with a bunch of known people, in a good restaurant or during transportation, be aware of your surroundings. For anything odd that may seem to you, report to your leader, hotel manager, police officer or any trustworthy person around you. Staying cautious and vigilant will not only save you from any kind of abuse but also can curb any chances of bigger mishap.

So wear your traveling shoes and get going!
