Assamese Wedding is a Hindu Traditional Wedding which takes place in Assam. It is based on Vedic rituals and traditions, the marriage ceremony is known as ‘Biya’, having various pre and post wedding rituals like other Hindu marriages. Assamese people also have their own rituals before and after the Main Marriage Ceremony. Beside this you can also enjoy the sightseeing of the place. You will be guided about their traditional rituals what and how it is done. 

Itinerary Details

Tourist Attractions: Shankardev Kalakshetra, Assam State Museum, Assam State Zoo, Kamakhya Temple, Bhubaneshwari Temple

On arrival at Guwahati, our representative will greet and welcome you with our Indian tradition after your arrival. On reaching Guwahati you will be escorted to your accommodation. Check into your accommodation and take rest after your long flight journey. Fresh up and then take the day free for leisure. 

Overnight stay at Guwahati. 
 

Have your breakfast and then visit to the Groom’s house. It is the day before the main marriage. Rituals are followed by the Groom’s side that is named as –

  • Juroon - Pre-wedding ceremony day that is done before the main marriage ceremony. Here the Groom’s mother with relatives carries with them which includes Golden ornaments, Mekhela Shador, Main set which is given to the bride to wore in the main marriage ceremony, Coconut, Fish, Betal Nuts, Bananas, Make up Kits with some other clothes as gifts are given to the bride which are touched by the Groom before they start their journey.  All are presented before the bride’s family. 

Then we will return home and take rest. Wedding songs are played, aged women used to sing Wedding songs under the tripal (varenda). Enjoy the evening and then return back to hotel. 

Overnight stay at Guwahati. 
 

Have your breakfast and then we will attend the main wedding day. On this day Assamese people used to do many rituals from the beginning of the morning. Today’s programme will be-

  • Na-Purush’r Sardha – Recalling our 9 generation of ancestors. It is one of the special ceremony which is carried out in honour of our last nine generation ancestors from the groom’s father side and the last three generations from the mother’s side.
  • Pani Tula – both side do the same ritual carrying earth or pital vessels and visit any lakes or rivers and collect water from the river and pour inside the pots which are covered with Gamusa (towel) and then return back to their home. They sang Biya Naam (Wedding songs) and then the mother pours the sacred water over his head and it is followed by others. 
  • Main Marriage – According to Subho mohrat (good time) Groom is well-dressed with Dhoti, Kurta, Cheleng and then take blessings from his relatives and friends and then marched towards the Bride’s house.  Before entering Bride’s home Bride’s sister used to washed bridegroom’s feet’s and bride’s father used to welcome him with aarti. Then wedding is started taking the name of Lord Shiva (Hindu God).Then in front of the sacred fire, The couple exchange garlands and takes vows amidst chanting mantras.
  • After all the ceremonies are over, the bride and the groom pay their respects to their ancestors, and then to all of the elders with gifts.
  • Bidaay – Farewell is given to the bride and then when she reaches her husband’s place, her feet is being washed at the entrance by one small child and enters the house after breaking a Saki (Earthen lamp) with her feet and finding a small coin from the Kaloh (Earthen pot) filled with water.
